To say that I was shocked would be a major understatement. Until this moment I hadn't really thought about how I would react if I found out that Kevin was in fact lying to me. The sucker punches to the stomach just kept on coming today and I was starting to feel like I was going to be physically sick.

Numbly I got up and went over to the window and stared out at the scene that I had seen hundreds of times before. But now the view looked different to me. Instead of seeing the beauty in the chaos that I usually saw, all I saw was pushing, shoving and the "I’m in a hurry so get out of my way" walks and attitudes of the people down the sidewalk.

I could feel the tears starting to build again and savagely pushed them away. I straightened my shoulders and turned back towards Katie and said "well I guess that confirms what Jack told me. And since you both have no reason to lie to me and Caleb disappeared when he realized what we were talking about, I'm going to believe you"

Katie smiled sympathetically "I'm sorry, Rory. This is really not the way I wanted to meet you. I mean Caleb has been talking about what a cool person you are since I met you and he realized that I was Indian as well.

I laughed somewhat bitterly and said "how long did it take him to realize that you were Indian? You obviously look Indian...?"

She laughed and said "Can you believe until after our 4th date. I even told him about my family and my parents moving here from India but for some reason I guess they didn't click"

Katie pulled me to the couch and we sat there talking and totally ignoring the Kevin subject because I didn't feel like talking about it and Katie could tell that now wasn't the time.

After what seemed like only minutes I glanced at the clock and jumped up "Oh shoot" I said "I'm supposed to meet Jack to go to the Gurdawara in 10 minutes"

"Gurdawara?" Katie said "is there one in this town?"

"Yeah. There are actually 3 within 40 miles of here so you sort of get your choice. Haven't you been to one? I asked

"No. Since I moved here at the beginning of the term, I've been too busy with classes and work" Katie said ruefully

I stopped and looked at her and asked "Do you want to come with us today?"

After a moment, she said "sure. But I don't have a salwar kameez with me. And my apartment in 15 minutes away from here"

I looked at her closely "We seem to be about the same size so you can borrow one of mine"

"Are you sure" she asked

"Yeah. Totally, it’s fine" I said

We said out goodbyes to Caleb and left. It took us 20 minutes to get home because of the traffic and Jack kept texting me asking me where I was.

When we finally got to my house, I parked and we walked inside.

"This is a nice house" Katie said

"Thanks" I said, glancing around as I heard footsteps.

A moment later Jack appeared around the corner and froze. I turned to look at Katie to introduce them and found her frozen and starting at Jack...
