Khoon (trans: Blood)

Suddenly the door burst open once again and in came Mr. & Mrs. Robins. They frantically looked around and spotting me, came rushing over.

“What happened? How’s Kevin? How’s Kayla? Are they okay…?” Sherry asked, frantically

I took a deep breath and told them what the doctor had just told me. When I said that Kevin was in a coma, Sherry sagged against me and both Will and I had to grab her before she fell down.

She started sobbing and her husband, Dave came over and took her into his arms.

“What about Kayla?” he asked

We all glanced over at her parents and Mrs. Knells spoke up “The doctor said that Kayla has a mild concussion, her right arms in broken and fractured. She broke 2 ribs and she is in a medically induced coma right now”

There was an almost audible sigh of relief in the room and we all sat down to wait for more news.

Sometime later, I turned to Will and asked “What time is it?”

H e looked at his watch and said “It's almost 8:30 in the morning” with surprise in his voice.

I got up and said “I’m going to go outside and call my parents to let them know what happened and where I am”

“I need to do that too” said Merry and everyone else agreed.

Going outside, I moved off to the side and called my house

“Hello” my mom answered

“Mom, me yah. Ek accident hoya and me hospital te yah” (trans: Mom it’s me. There was an accident and I am at the hospital right now) I said.

“KE!?” she practically yelled “to theek yah? Ke hoya”? (Trans: What? What happened? Are you okay?)

“I’m fine, mom. Two of my friends, Kevin and Kayla were in a car accident. They were hit by a drunk driver around 3 this morning. We have all been at the hospital waiting for news” I said

After reassuring her that I was okay and that no she didn’t need to come down right now and that I would be home soon, I hung up. Glancing around I saw that almost everyone else was still on the phone and since I didn’t feel like going back inside, decided to wait for either Will or Merry to get done.

Looking down the street, I saw a sign for what looked like a coffee drive through. I knew that I needed something to clear my head and was pretty sure that so did everyone else, so I went inside and asked the people still there if they wanted anything to drink. As I was going out the door after getting everyone’s order, Mr. Robins called my name. I stopped and turned towards him and he was walking towards me, taking out his wallet.

“Here’s some money for the coffee” he said, holding out a pair of $20 bills

“Oh you don’t have to do that, Mr. Robins” I said “I can handle it”

“No, Rory. Take the money. You guys have already gone through a lot today” he said

I saw the stubborn look in his eyes, the same look that I was used to seeing in Kevin almost every day, and took the money. When I got to the door, Will and Merry were both just about to come in and I quickly told them what I was going to do. They both decided to come with me since I couldn’t carry everything by myself and we got everyone’s order from the people that were outside.

It took us almost 25 minutes to get the coffee and get back to the ER. My phone rang just as we were going inside and Will grabbed the coffee’s from my hand and left me just holding mine so I could answer it.

After hanging up, I went inside and immediacy knew that something had happened because there was something different in the air.

“What happened” I asked the room in general

Mrs. Robins with tears rolling down her face tried to answer but couldn’t which only made me even more nervous.

“The doctor just came out and told us that Kevin started bleeding internally and they just rushed him into emergency surgery” someone said

I dropped the coffee that I was holding and stared in shock…
