Mini Rant

First things first, there is a new post under this one.

Second, I have to rant a little. I work part time as a cashier at a gas station. Some of the people I meet are the dumbest, rudest and racist people in the world. This week in particular has been filled with idiots who don't know when to keep their mouths shut.
When I was at work last night, I was helping a middle aged man. He ignored my hello and just shoved all his things at me. Okay thats fine. I understand that some people don't like to talk. Then he throws, and I mean literally throws, the money in my face. By this time I was getting really irritated but because I've worked in customer service since I was 15, I kept my mouth shut. But this guy wasn't done being an ass yet. Before he leaves, i glances up at me and looks me in th eye for the first time and says "Its so sad"
Confused I asked him "what's sad, sir?"
"That such a young girl like you is wasting her life but working in a gas station"
I just stared at him in shock and he continued "you shouldn't have dropped out of high school. Go get your GED and go to college. Trust me you'll thank me for this advise one day"
By now I'd regained my voice and was pissed. Fixing a polite smile on my face, the way only someone who's been dealing with idiots like this for 5 years can, and said "I'm sorry sir. I don't know who you are talking about but it is not me. Even if it was, it is none of your business. But for your information, I graduated from high school and I am IN COLLEGE right now getting my bachelors at UO"
The guys face turned red and he abruptly turned and left.
The customer came up to me and said "what an idiot"
We laughed and moved on.

I don't know why people think that if you work at a job in customer service you are stupid. Or what gives them any right to say anything like to anyone. I am so sick of idiots right now.

  1. What a dick!!! I'd get the same looks when I was working concession stand at concerts. And I'd already graduated from college and had a job!! I was just making extra money on weekends. I also hate it when people make assumptions and can totally relate to how you felt. I love how you told him off without losing your cool!!

  3. I know how you feel, I use to waitress and some of the rudest people out there you really just want to dump their food in their lap!! Now that I am older I would do just that too. Good thing I don't work in that field any more.

Good for you letting him know the what for!!

  4. Good for you for not losing your cool and setting this "gentleman" straight. Perhaps he will think twice before judging someone again. mum

  5. People are utterly amazing! I go through the same thing some times, especially since no one is really sure what nationality or race I am. I don't think it really matters, but when someone asks me what I am, I let them know that I'm human with way more intelligence to not ask/answer a dumb question like that. Good for you for not losing your cool!!

  6. Alicia - that's hilarious. I've been asked what race I am before too so I have to use that, lol. Usually I ignore it. But apparently a lot of people can't tell the difference between Indian and Mexican because I have idiots come up to me at work and start speaking in Spanish. I know Spanish but still its a rude thing to do. Especially when I have been speaking in English to every other customer they saw me talking too.
