P.S - like always, comments are very appreciated.

Jack stared thoughtfully into his coffee as I waited for him answer with knots in my stomach. I hoped he would understand my need to this…this thing with Alex to myself and not give mom and dad a clue. I knew that they would be hurt and upset if…when they find out about Alex and I did not feel like dealing with it now.

As I stared at him, Jack looked up and asked, “Why don’t you want me to tell them? They would approve of Alex”

“Because I want to keep this to myself right now and see where it goes. Besides, even though I know they would approve of Alex they would still be pissed that I was involved with him. It would be a betrayal of their trust in me, in their eyes,” I said as I slipped a pancake onto the plate and handed it to Jack along with the two other I had already cooked.

I followed him to the table grabbing my coffee along the way, sat down facing him, and said, “You know what we overheard yesterday when I got home from the airport. I am still angry they were discussing my marriage on the day they knew my best friend had died and knew that I was going to be home any moment. If they find out this now they are going to use it as an excuse to hurry up and get me married. Whether to Alex or to whomever the hell they were discussing yesterday”

Jack chewed thoughtfully for a moment before saying “Ok I won’t tell them. I wasn’t going to say anything right now anyways because I don’t think it’s any of their business”. He held up a hand as I started to interrupt and said “but be careful. If I think that you are getting to seriously involved I will tell them. After I kill Alex.”
I nodded and started to get up when Jack said, “Rory I want to talk to you about Alex spending the night in your room”

I felt my face flush and started to turn away when I noticed his face was red as well. That broke the tension and I started laughing with Jack following soon behind. A moment later, he looked seriously at me and said, “You know I love you and Alex is my best friend so no one could be happier about this then me. I do not care that Alex spent the night in your room because I know that is all that happened. You are not the type of girl to…to…you know what before marriage.” I had been listening to him seriously but broke into laughter at his obvious reluctance to mention the word sex to me, his little sister.

He glared at me and continued “but make sure that both of you don’t ever get carried away. I trust you 100% so I’m going to San Francisco like this or I would never leave you along in the house with Alex”
I nodded and walked over to him to give him a hug “I know’ I whispered “I will not do anything to embarrass you or mom and dad”.

A few moments later, I heard footsteps on the stairs and headed to the kitchen to make more pancakes just as Alex came down. I head Jack and Alex having a conversation in the dining room but could not make it. I figured it was the same thing that Jack had talked to me about and made a mental note to ask Alex later.

Jack came into the kitchen with his dishes, gave me a hug good bye, and said to me “the keys to my car are on the hook because I’m going to take the truck instead”. I heard Jack and Alex go outside and a moment later heard the door close and lock.

Glancing over my shoulder I saw Alex leaning against the kitchen counter looking at me and asked “what?”
He smiled and said “nothing. Just thinking how cute you look in that apron”

I felt my face flush, said “thanks”, and handed him a plate of pancakes. After we finished eating Alex offered to stack the dishwasher while I finished my coffee that I took outside.

A few minutes later Alex came out and put his arms on either side of me on the porch railing. I turned around in his arms to face him and smiled as he leaned down to kiss me and said, “Now that’s a proper good morning”.

I laughed and felt my phone my vibrating and glanced at it on the railing. It was a text from Caleb and it said, “Kevin’s parents arrive at the airport in 30 mins”

I felt my body go numb as reality crept back in and Kevin’s loss hit me again…
